Design Implications
This document outlines ten key design implications for redesigning the How People Learn (HPL) course to better serve in-service teachers. It emphasizes grounding all content in real classroom practice rather than abstract theory, offering adaptive and contextualized pathways for diverse teaching environments, and reducing cognitive and time load through micro-modules and just-in-time resources. It also calls for incentivizing application through reflective cycles, badges, and peer accountability; acknowledging systemic and cultural constraints; and leveraging networking as a motivational and professional growth tool. The report further recommends reframing HPL as a practical, AI-supported teaching companion rather than a one-time course, ensuring buy-in from principals by highlighting time and efficiency benefits, and expanding accessibility for international and underserved educators through localization and translation. Finally, it advises designing for both intrinsically and compliance-driven teachers, offering flexible engagement levels to meet varying motivations.
